Yes, Japanese is easier Mr. South.
Plus, Chinese, which dialect ? Many Chinese can hardly understand each other if they dont come from the same part of the country, despite Chairman Maos great efforts... My wife is from Macau and she has a hard time understanding when we travel in China. BTW, Sachiko, she kind of reminds me very much of you, well you have longer hair and one d more. Wouldn't even be surprised if you talk the same. If you ever stop by in Hawaii lets have a drink together.
Have a great weekend !

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for your compliments!

I'd say Chinese and Japanese are equally difficult to speak, but because of Romanji, Japanese would probably be a bit easier for an English speaker to learn.

Hey Sachiko !

Long time fan and always intrigued with what you have to say about whatever topic it may be. You are a very intelligent woman which is what attracted me to come back your site (among other things :P) I was wondering what is easier to learn Japanese or Chinese? I've been thinking of learning either one or the other or even both Which would you suggest to learn first?

Welcome to my blog Ed!

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, although I am exceedingly busy at the moment, so it may take me a while to get around to them. Also, as there are so many comments on this page already, perhaps my FAQ page will be a more appropriate place to post your questions than here.

Sachiko; I have been reading about you on the internet and reviewing your blog entries. You seem to be a very intelligent, interesting and thoughtful person. I was interested in engaging you either in a public forum such as this or in private on your atheist views. Specifically, if you have any theories or perspective on the human race as to how we have arrived to this point. You can reference readings published by Richard Dawkins, as I have read some of his theories in his most recent book, the “God Delusion” I think is the title. Be advised that I am of the opinion that Mr Dawkins is a brilliant man but I confess I find many of his assertions unconvincing. Can we engage in a little discussion?

Hi Anurag,

Sorry it took me so long to get to answering your question - I've been very busy over the past week.

The fact of the matter is, all men have "dirty" thoughts about women all the time - it is their instinct. And there isn't anything wrong with this, along as they don't decide to act on them inappropriately.

The safety issue is a genuine concern though. I love to dress sexy, but I will only do so in a safe environment - I will not walk past a pub full of drunks at midnight, for example. Still, I'll avoid doing that no matter what I'm wearing - in general, if a place is safe for women, it is safe for them to wear sexy clothes. This will only be the case in a country where this is already socially accepted though: there's no way I'd dress sexy in a Muslim country, for example, as I would certainly be attacked.
